1: What is good design?

A while ago I had a chat with Mr. Wu of CHH, and he said: Many people are not focusing on housing right now. Too much focus on specific items, such as equipment, lighting, etc., but there are problems with the larger frame, such as graphic design, these special items can not be remedied.

On this point, I have a deep feeling, extended to led lighting design, can be expressed in this way.

More people are concerned about whether the lights they buy are good or not, whether they are good lamps and lanterns, high-end lamps and lanterns, what brand is the chip, what brand is the driver, and whether the frame of the lamps and lanterns is good-looking.

But it is neglected that the core of good lighting is design, and the product is secondary.

Every owner must have enough knowledge to achieve what they want. At the same time, it should also have a certain aesthetic basis. It’s hard to rely on a designer, even if it’s not the right one.

2: Led lighting design (residential) status quo.

This is a cruel little paragraph, but it’s true. A lot of so-called LED lighting design, no main lighting design, in my opinion is extremely ridiculous. To learn lighting, can only look at commercial, and then residential lighting class, but also from commercial perhaps all kinds of inspiration. Hotel/restaurant/bar lighting is worth learning.

In general, many good LED lighting design companies, even some small LED lighting design companies, are not going to do residential projects. These are typical jobs with less money and more work.

On this basis, derived a lot of interesting, are known to understand LED lighting designer.

For example, they decorated a set of two houses. Then open a Taobao shop to start a business. Unfortunately, many interior designers can’t. It would kill him to change his design. His design is the best in the world.

Their common characteristic is: do not understand exactly what is led lighting design, what is its fundamental? (More on this later) The output of this type of designer is almost based on selling lights. You can use four spotlights and never use two. And the whole design case will only have spotlights/lamp belts, not the owner can buy the lighting, lighting types, luminous mode, etc., planning into the design case.

The above can only be distinguished by the owners themselves, at this point.

3: What is a good LED lighting design? (Housing only)

Let me begin with a simple explanation of these two paragraphs.

① Good lighting is not easy to detect, while bad lighting is often very obvious.

Residential, hotel, and other places where people live for a long time are the opposite of some light shows and so on.

Residence, it is all sorts of demand that satisfies a person forever is the first urgent task, not be to regard lamplight as main body to go designing.

People in the home life, walking, etc., can cause our attention, is always the home furnishings, rather than simple light. Our light is always as green leaves, to meet the needs of light at night at the same time, to set off the beauty of various decorations. You can’t steal the show.

The human eye is phototaxis, just to give you a simple example. In 2018, I went to visit a hand-made exhibition with my friends. When I came down from the second floor, there was a display case near us with no light. On the contrary, there was a light furthest away from us. When I asked them what the first thing they saw was, they said, “The farthest one.” This is the phototaxis of the human eye. In the photo on the left, with light, we pay more attention to the painting itself. On the right, we will immediately pay attention to the wall above the painting, not only that, the painting is not good. More light is concentrated on the wall above the painting.

But from a layman’s point of view, it can feel flat. Not much.

Because there is a very important point is that the residential class of good LED lighting design, and interior design is completely different. Interior design can use unrestrained imagination to create all kinds of beautiful, interesting, cool shapes.

But light is no good, residential light, the first priority, is always the comfort of the guarantor!

If you don’t understand the above, think about it. It is estimated that many people will still feel that the led lighting design of the old people’s room is very bad, because there is no spotlights.

It is for all these reasons that we can say that good lighting is hard to detect, while bad lighting is always obvious.

I’m going to talk more about using lights to attract attention.

I’ve seen a lot of interior design, good and bad. I find that very interior design love to use lamps and lanterns as a model, and ignore the meaning of its own, the correct or not completely indifferent to the light after opening the lamp.

For example, a lot of people like the magnetic track lamp, I taobao random search, as shown below.

A lot of people do that, they use magnets in all kinds of places in their homes, different types of combinations, but when you ask the designer what the specific meaning of the light is, you can’t explain it.

Or a lot of spotlights 33,22 together, as shown below.

No matter be magnetic absorb or this kind, a lot of people had shot the lamp itself to regard the adornment point of a residential space as went with.

And ignored the nature of the lamp itself, is light. In my opinion, this is a radical thinking.

In fact, if you use lamps and lanterns as the decorative point of residential space, you can choose some floor lamps, desk lamps, wall lamps and so on. Instead of downlights and spotlights, the shape and arrangement are used as decorative points.

The core of residential lighting is to make people comfortable. The lights must be turned on at night. If it is not comfortable to live in, there is no value in looking good. After all, houses are for people to live in, not for people to take photos and visit.

In fact, for a while, I was conflicted, because I felt that after seeing so many housing cases, I fell into a strange state. Who’s right and who’s wrong.

Later I produced such an idea: because of the aesthetic difference of each person, in residential space, I do not receive electricity on the basis of modeling to be put with canister spotlight. With light, use other sources to satisfy. Is that feasible? Of course, this is just a personal thought. Of course, I also asked some people, I said I give you this design, sell you more lights, you are willing to. They were unanimous in their opposition.

After elaborating the above two points, we continue to talk about what is a good LED lighting design? Since I wrote a lot in the first article, I won’t say much here.

I’ve always thought that the space you spend a lot of time in is like tai Chi with light.

Tai Chi is Yin and Yang and light is soft (flood light) and hard (focus light). One cannot be without the other.

Many so-called LED lighting design is what I pointed out at the beginning of the article, which is to give you a few spots for spotlights, so that he can sell more. Spotlights, spotlight type. There is no comfort in such a space.

I was asked to write a tutorial on how houses should be used with light, which I thought was a very difficult task to accomplish. Thousands of faces, residential, there is no exactly the same residence, the better the interior design, the more different, lighting needs to express things will not be the same.

But I found that a lot of people, what they would like more is, the article can clearly teach him, how many lights, how many watts, how much color temperature. And so on.

Without rigorous design logic, without good design logic, it makes absolutely no sense to teach this. When one learns this logic, one can also make good lighting.
