Advantages of automotive LED lamps
At present, the mainstream headlights on most cars are halogen and xenon lamps. Compared with traditional headlights, LED lamps have the following advantages:
(1) Energy saving and environmental protection: LED car lights require low voltage and small current under the same brightness, so they are more energy saving than traditional halogen lamps and xenon lamps, and their energy consumption is only 1/10 of that of traditional lamps. LED lamps do not contain mercury, lead and other environmental pollution elements, and low energy consumption, can reduce fuel consumption, prevent car electricity passing through the current caused by damage.
(2) Adjustable brightness and light color: LED lamp designers can adjust the brightness and light color according to needs, the lamp mode can be changed at will, the shape is more fashionable and diversified.
(3) Long service life, good shock resistance: the theoretical service life of current automotive LED lamps can reach 60,000-100,000 hours, the actual service life of many automotive lamps has reached the current limit; LED structure in less vulnerable parts, good earthquake resistance.
(4) Small size and light weight of LED components: this advantage allows automobile manufacturers to be more flexible in lamp design, with higher luminous purity and clearer and brighter colors.
(5) Outstanding safety: There is no delay in lighting the taillight, and the response time is faster than that of traditional lamps. LED taillight response time is only a few tens of nanoseconds, faster response time can enable the driver behind the earlier response; Prevent blinding interference when meeting the car, will not cause the driver’s visual obstruction, to achieve the purpose of reducing the occurrence of traffic accidents.
Disadvantages of automotive LED lamps
(1) Poor heat dissipation: heat dissipation is one of the technical problems of automotive LED lamps and lanterns, and LED lamps and lanterns will appear light failure because of heat dissipation is not up to standard. Because LED chip is small and heat conduction is poor, LED grain temperature is too high, the luminous efficiency will be reduced or even damaged.
(2) High price: THE production of LED chips is difficult, demanding for the environment such as temperature and humidity, so the production cost is high, the price is relatively high. Higher costs have hampered its popularity in the market. In a mid-range car, for example, the combined LED rear light costs almost twice as much as the traditional incandescent rear light.
(3) High maintenance price: expensive maintenance cost is one of the reasons why LED headlights are difficult to popularize at this stage. Although the theoretical service life of LED is very long, but once an accident occurs, the cost of maintenance will be as high as thousands. Because if the LED lamp bead is damaged, you need to replace the entire headlight assembly if you want to repair it. This has LED many car owners to opt for xenon or halogen lamps instead of LED headlights.
(4) Light radiation: light radiation is a common problem of LED lamps, and LED car lights at this stage are inevitable. In the design of LED headlamp, the potential photobiological radiation hazard of LED products needs to be avoided, among which blue light will cause harm to human cornea to a certain extent, and flicker and photobiological action will also cause harm to human body. With the development of LED technology and automotive lamps, LED car lamps should not only meet the technical requirements of automotive lamp design, but also meet the requirements of automobile users’ aesthetic feelings, and more importantly, meet the safety requirements of no radiation to human body.
